Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help and build the architecture of an inclusive India. The aim is to create a virtuous cycle between society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions and to upgrade the capabilities of both the public and the private sectors in respond to the development needs of rural India. The current policy context urges institutions of national importance to adopt villages and develop appropriate technologies. SRKREC, Bhimavaram is the coordinating institute of UBA. Dr. P.A.R.K. Raju, Professor & Dean-R&D is the Coordinator of UBA Cell, SRKREC, Bhimavaram.
The UBA Cell of SRKREC has formed an inter-disciplinary team of faculty members and support staff. UBA provides an opportunity to channelise the energy of students and faculty with measurable outcomes. We are mandated to work through the network of available units in the Institute and will also try to collaborate with various community stakeholders. For instance, the UBA Cell of SRKREC will work hand in hand with NSS, NCC units, Engineering Projects In Community Service (EPICS), and various centres of excellence of SRKREC. We have identified few villages around our campus and chosen to work on select themes. We hope to develop villages around our campus as model villages and then scale it up throughout West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh.
S.R.K.R. Engineering College has successfully established Centres of Excellence for the improvement and enrichment of science and engineering knowledge. The activities of WET Research Centre, GIC, KLIC, DREC, STRC and CATCH are interwoven and carry out multidisciplinary research projects using integrated technologies with the prime aspiration of bringing “Science to the Society”. The functions of these centres mainly focus on the development, management and conservation of natural resources, environment and ecology. SRKREC will work through the network of available units in the Institute and also try to collaborate with various stakeholders. SRKREC requesting all faculty members to make sure that 10-20 percent of all B.Tech project should be done with focus on inclusive rural development. Similarly, M.Tech and Ph.D students should be encouraged for developing inclusive technology. SRKREC has adopted six villages and already addressing the following issues:
SRKREC, Bhimavaram is involving Visiting faculty / Adjunct faculty / Professor Emeritus with higher problem formulation and analysis skills to address social issues connected to the development and raising of the quality of the people of the rural area. With the expertise and advise of the senior people, we are able to address issues like organic farming, literacy improvement, environmental awareness programmes, solid waste management, health awareness programmes, Women Empowerment, Land and Water Management Practices in the rural areas of West Godavari District, A.P.
